Bears miss plane to Baltimore....

Beermutts reported in the chatbox that the Bears missed their plane to Baltimore and there are no planes expected there today as they brace for a winter storm that could dump up to 2 ft of snow on the area. I heard last night that they already moved the game to 4 due to the expected storm.

If anyone has any additional information, please post here, this could really effect some things in that game.

Sounds like they'll have to fly in AND play Sunday. Has that ever happened before with a team and what were the results?

This was posted yesterday on a Ravens Forum:
Things are coming into better focus. This mornings models came in about 2-3 hours ago and they are starting to agree more than yesterday.

It's interesting reading everyone's post about weather. Some of you out there are very good and understand the difficulties of weather forecasting. Then there are a small minority posts that make me want to throw my computer against the wall

Anyway it appears extremely like that this storm is going to come up the coast and to about a position east of Ocean City. After that is the interesting part. If it turns east and heads out to sea then the snow will end late Saturday night. If it heads up the coast then it continues snowing (heavily) through Sunday morning. The later case would add the potential for an additional foot of snow.

That being said the more likely scenario seems to be the way where it heads out to sea, i.e. doesn't ride along the East Coast. With this scenario I think we could expect 10-18" around the region with some spots approaching 24" if they get caught in some of the mesoscale bands.

Someone mentioned the 10-1 snow-to-liquid ratio earlier. That is generally the case around here and is a good starting point. That ratio is generally when the temperatures are going to be in the 30-32 range for the majority of the storm. With this storm we are most likely going to be in the 22-27 degree range which would increase the ratio to 12-1, maybe even higher in some spots.

Someone else also mentioned hearing 24-36" for one of the models. That person was being conservative as you have to be when you are speaking publically about these storms. The one computer model yesterday afternoon was putting out close to 3.5" of liquid. I will let you do the math but that type of storm would shut down the area for several days.

Looks like a light, fluffy snow at 25 degrees. I hadn't heard that it would be so cold. At least it will be an easy snow to shovel at that ratio 12-1.

First of all, what do you think of Bastardi?

He is talking about a second "rogue" storm developing just SE of the O.C. that will dump snow on this area up to 3-4 inches an hour. Lightening, hurricane-type winds, massive beach erosion. He is sayingh it will be just like Ida but with snow. Could be quite a show. He is calling for 1-2 feet throughout with isolated pockets around us getting up 3 feet.

M&T Bank Stadium has a turf conditioning system (heat coils) under the field so I am not sure why so many feel the game will be postponed.

The league is more concerned about the game going off on Sunday as opposed to fan attendance.

Combine the heated turf and the workers spending the night, they will get the job done.

Mailmen always make it thru, any kind of weather! At 7:30 am here in Sykesville, Md, just 25 miles West of Baltimore, off Exit 80, Rt 32 in Carroll county, we have sheets of Snow blowing sideways. At this time, I just measured 6 inches of snow, which began around 10:30 pm Friday night.
.. Football news: they reported that the BEARs Team flew into BWI on Friday to ensure that they would be on time for the game sunday...which has been bumped back to 4:15 START time, so Baltimore city crews will have time to clear the roads leading up to the Stadium. Stay Dry down there and Go Ravens. I'm the older good looking guy on the right in my Picture. The good looking young man standing next to me, is MARK. He is a big Ravens fan too.

The preceeding posts all came from a local Ravens forum in the area. Hope that gives you guys a better idea of whats going on.

nice work Sarge!

Sounds like that once the game starts around 4 the snow should be over, if that is the case I don't see this having a large impact on the numbers in the game. Anyone see this differently?

From another board:

From the stories I read, that didn't have anything to do with the decision to move it back at the time they made it, but it is true that the the Bears have not yet made it to Baltimore. Local news (I live in Baltimore) is reporting that "Bear Force One" did not arrive at BWI airport on Friday night as originally planned and they have no idea when they will arrive. Apparently they sat on the plane from 10:30pm until 12:30am before deciding to deboard and not leave Friday night for Baltimore. From the forecasts, it sounds like they'll be able to get here on Sunday morning so it is a good thing that they did move the game time back.

Well, after making fun of the team for not preparing for this, I guess I gotta take it back.

They actually tried to leave a day early because of the weather report and ended up sitting on the runway for two hours on Friday before their flight was ultimately cancelled.

Normal travel day for a Sunday game is Saturday, so they were at least trying.

They are now hoping to leave out late tonight if a flight opens up.
