As Phicinfan says they have no draft picks. Beat writer Brad Biggs reports the Bears are expected to "hit it big" at the midnight start of free agency. Analysis: "This is it," Biggs' source said. "There is no draft. They have to come out with four or five players. The Bears will not be outbid. It's in their budget." The Bears have traditionally been conservative in free agency, but we've now seen multiple reports expecting them to splurge this year. Julius Peppers is squarely in the cross-hairs.

Peppers is a lock, according to Schefter.. Possible landing point for T.O.? Dunta Robinson?

Actually I LIKE the T.O. idea. They are in dire need of a vet to help the youngsters. He still has game, and would take the pressure of Knox and Bennett. Plus give another big target for Cutler.

Adam Schefter, of ESPN, reports the Chicago Bears have signed unrestricted free-agent RB Chester Taylor (Vikings) to a four-year deal worth $12.5 million. Taylor will receive $7 million guaranteed in the first year of the contract.

OK, this is odd to me.

I have stated many times that I don't think Forte is anything special, but Taylor seems to be a similar back. Good reciever, but nothing special as a runner.

I guess with no cap, they front load the contract and he's cheap in 2011 if there is football period and a cap is back in place.

Don't get this move at all unless Martz thinks Forte is not a feature back..............

i don't quite get it myself . . . forte is a great all around back . . . he was a bit dinged last year and his oline didn't do him any favors either . . . better fix the oline or taylor won't fair much better, imo . . . ;)

then again, going rbbc could keep forte healthy . . . ;)

Neil Hayes, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago Bears are close to signing unrestricted free-agent DE Julius Peppers (Panthers) to what is expected to be a six-year deal that would pay him around $12-$14 million a season with the first three years guaranteed, according to a source.

Trade bait?

He isn't that expensive. They need picks, other than Olsen...they dont' have much to offer teams. Some RB hungry teams like San Diego or others may be willing to deal for a much younger Forte. dunno:

Good point.

They are moving quickly to install Martz type players. Big, blocking TE and now a pass catching RB. Coming soon, WR help.................

honestly when they kept lovie i saw the mccasky's either selling off everyone but cutler and cheapin out, or goin for the gusto... surprisingly they appear to be goin for it! yeah it's kinda exciting for me, however on the other hand we need o line... desperately... receiver(s)... db's... etc. if they go for it its gonna take more moves than this... unless of course a playoff trip saves lovie's/angelo's job, and theyve been told this. In that case they probably sign a tackle, shop olsen, and pray - unfortunately the football gods tried to hand us a championship 4 short years ago - the bears decided they didnt want it - i think we will need more than luck this time

So....am I the only one who thinks a great target for Chicago now would be T.O.? In a Martz system?!?!?!? With a Qb with arm.....and now a rebuilt defense?

YIKES!

No, I think it would make sense. He would come reasonably cheap and while he's lost a step, still a very talented receiver.

Is Marshal out of discussions for chi town now? Make Cutler happy, get your big WR, move aromashadu (sp?) to #2. That seems a better move to me just because of TO and Marshal's age difference. What say you?

I agree, better move and reuniting Cutler with Marshall is a natural move. Question is does the Bears wallet have one more big load in it. Marshall requires a pick to get which is why most are thinking T.O, I imagine.

i honestly believe chicago is not that bad off at the wr position or any of the skill positions as a whole . . . but the oline has to be improved upon to make any system work effectively . . . ;)

Head scratcher, indeed. Taylor obviously doesn't have anywhere near as much wear on the tread as other RB's his age, but he and Forte are essentially the same exact player. This really hurts Forte's 2010 fantasy value if they both stay.
