Axe Elf's Week 3: Big Wins and Close Losses

A

Axe Elf

Week 3 was a decent week for me; not as good as Week 1, but not as bad as Week 2. I posted 19 wins to 15 losses, although I was only 8-8 in money leagues. The most discouraging thing, however, was the number of CLOSE losses. I really should have had a record more like 26-8 overall, and 11-5 in money leagues.

This is pretty amazing when you think about it. My 19 wins were by an average margin of victory of 34.73 points--and that includes the two games I won by single digits--a 1.8 point victory in one league, and a 1.5 point victory in a money league (my opponent started Bowe). But 7 of my 15 losses were by an average margin of defeat of only 4.25 points!

I lost one money league by 0.56 pts on the final meaningless Bears’ INT to end their game with Pittsburgh on Sunday night. The final score was 113.56 to 113.00; I was the third-highest scoring team in the league, and he was the second.

I lost another money league by 1.26 points--I was the fourth-highest scoring team in the league, and he was the third. What’s worse is that I played the Vikings D over the Chiefs D--and benched Antonio Brown for DeAndre Hopkins. I could have been far and away the highest-scoring team in the league with an easy victory.

I lost a third league (non-money) by 3.1 points when Eric Decker, Kenbrell Thompkins and Giovani Bernard all posted their highest scores of the year for my opponent.

I lost two more non-money leagues by 4.58 and 4.98. In another “fun” league, I was the fourth-highest scoring team even with Sidney Rice’s 19.9 points on the bench, but I lost by 7.5 to the second-highest scoring team. Finally, I lost a money league game by 7.78 when I benched Russell Wilson for Carson Palmer, a move that cost me 17 points.

I lost two more games on coaching errors, but they were not so close losses. One was a money league by 12 points when I started Daryl Richardson over Fred Jackson (and had Sidney Rice on the bench in that league, too). The other was a non-money league where I started Dwayne Bowe over Jason Snelling, which cost me 22 points, and the Vikings D over the Chiefs D, which cost me 28 points. I lost by--you guessed it--50 points.

22 of my 32 DraftMaster teams sit in the top half of their respective leagues, with half my teams (16) in one of the top 4 places. 5 of my teams are currently leading their leagues, and 2 more sit in the cash at second place.

And for anyone who hasn’t read my previous post...

My FanDuel Leagues were looking pretty darn good this week up until Moreno got stuffed on the 1 yard line in the first half, and then when they pulled him out of the game for most of the second half, I was steaming. I still took home $105.50 from my $50 investment this week, but if Moreno gets just 8 more yards I win another $45. If Moreno gets that TD in the first half, I win another $67.50, and if Moreno gets the TD and another 20 yards in the second half (the Broncos gained 27 yards on the ground on the second drive of the third quarter alone), I would have won almost twice as much, pocketing another $103.50 for a profit of $159.

I'll take the $55.50 profit, but... C'mon, man!
