Auction Drafts?

Does anyone here do redraft leagues auction style? Someone last year (I think it was SuperDave) did like 40 ESPN auction drafts last year, got me thinking, that is something I have never done. I think it would be interesting to be able to select your team by auction. So anyone here done this? What strategies do you use?

One of the more effective and easy strategies I've used before is ALWAYS toss a popular name out there on your turn of a player that you have on your "Do Not Draft" list. Obviously one or more opponents will not have a problem with that guy so you can drain their coffers on players that you had no intention of bidding on in the first place.

Auctions are tricky if you've never done one. You need to be real disciplined in not spending more on guys you targeted than what you went in budgeted for.

Lastly, don't leave money on the table at the end. It's like dying in a gunfight with a full magazine. LOL

I host an auction redraft league every labor day weekend.

Do as Wes said and you'll have a successful draft. What makes these types of drafts more fun is if you know the guys you are drafting with, you can throw out guys they like and help them spend their money by carefully bidding them up.

Sounds very sneaky...... I like it.

tks wes and 12g....like I said, never done one, but find them intriguing.

What do each of you prefer, auction or draft?

I like straight draft with no salary cap, if only because your margin for error is way bigger. If you make a bad pick or two in a standard draft you can almost always recover. If you botch your money management early during an auction, you may end up with 2 studs and a bunch of waiver fodder.

I like having at least one auction league.

Snake redraft leagues are still fun, but jumping into auction style gives everybody a shot at every player. This also eliminates the bitching of the guys drafting in the middle slots.

I need to pick up someone for a auction draft I'm having tomorrow. one of the owners is MIA. THE MAN CAVE LEAGUE <--check it out if you're interested in giving one a shot.

I love the auction draft, you can go in with a solid list of players you want and generally get who you want unless someone is hard pressed to get someone on your list. You can also pick up nice sleepers for pretty cheap at the end which is nice (got slaton for $1 last year in an auction draft)

Looks like your league is filled. That wouldn't be a good time for me, if you know of any going on sunday through friday I've got nothing but time.
