From cbs sports,

Philadelphia QB Donovan McNabb is officially inactive for Week 3's game against the Chiefs. McNabb has been nursing a broken rib suffered in Week 1. Kevin Kolb will start and Michael Vick is also available to make his debut.

Okay, will use this thread, since I am too lazy to find the other.

Where are all the Kolb nay sayers now? The first Qb in NFL history to throw for over 300 yards in his first two starts! Tell me again how Philly doesn't want him???

:thrash: :woohoo1:

I found it pretty funny that the media was labeling Kolb as a bust, when he had never worked with the first team. Just thrown in unexpectedly and in mop up duty.

Remember how Matt Cassel did for the Patriots everytime he was given an opportunity to play behind Brady?

Makes a big difference when you go into a game knowing you are going to start, and being able to work with the first team. We don't expect players who miss training camp to be able to run with the starters, yet we expect a player during the season to be thrown into the fire and perform at a top level immediately.

By the way, listened to the radio broadcast of this last game (the philly radio guys), and by the third quarter I heard "who needs Donovan McNabb" twice. Mind you, these are Philly homers already popping off about McNabb, LOL

I'm back :)
look, i'll admit he's much better than i thought, and i'm glad i was wrong!

but!!!

he did put up these numbers against the NO (mostly garbage time) and a positively AWFUL KC defense. let's not kick mcnabb off the team yet, shall we?

I am not saying get rid of McNabb. Not yet. All I am saying is you and a few others were jumping him before he really had a chance to prove himself. Oh, and NO defense isn't the worst...but isn't the best either. I will give you KC sucks.

What I find interesting is what now for Philly? Bye this week. Then they will have 4 Qbs on active roster sucking up money. I believe Kolb is an FA after this is he not? Garcia was only a 1year deal I think. McNabb's retooling means he is up in 2years as well.

Some kind of decision will need to be made soon.

Vick is NOT the long term answer.

Vick is possibly under contract through next year (via team option for 2010), and Kolb is under contract through next year. Kolb signed a 4 year rookie deal.

McNabb went down at the perfect time for Kolb, Nothing better than getting your feet wet at the NFL level, and getting used to the game speed, than while playing two less than stellar defenses. Simply makes him much better prepared for the future.

Reid definitely has a big decision to make, and if he is leaning toward saying goodbye to McNabb, the timing couldn't be more perfect. Kolb could be resigned to a long term extension this upcoming offseason (at possibly a bargain deal), and Reid still has Vick on the roster to back him up.

Or, Reid could go into next season with no changes, but at the end of 2010, the price to lock up Kolb, if that is what they want to do at that point, is much higher, and you also have Vick at the end of his short deal.
