I'm not a big fan of backs who come to camp saying they added muscle. This proclaimation from ADP scares me. His goal was to bulk up some weight wise, now he comes to camp 2 lbs. lighter. His running style combined with less weight scares me.

  • ESPN's Kevin Seifert reports Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said he has dropped his body fat down to six percent this offseason and currently weighs 216 pounds. That's actually two pounds less than where he played last season, but Peterson said he plans to add a few more before training camp. Regardless, it's highly unlikely Peterson will reach the 230-pound level he predicted earlier this offseason.
Chester Taylor might still be the best 9th to 10th round back on the market.

2 lbs less scares you? Were not talking 10-15 lbs here....and by TC he could be 2 lbs heavier, who knows....

I guess I was considering the body fat %. Anyway, I think he needs the meat! Just because you bulk up the muscle, doesn't mean the bones and ligaments get any tougher. I do understand that the hamstring is the most important muscle protecting the ACL.

1. My initial impression was this kid is taking an off season regime with a focus on bringing his game to another level.

2. Dropping 6% body fat at only the cost of 2 #'s of body weight reaffirms this kid is seriously working out on his own.

3. Adding a few pounds is a good idea as his focus shifts to from an offseason regime to preparing for game/season needs.

4. Chester T is a great handcuff because with AP playing relatively light it will become more critical for Minny to protect him and that is best accomplished by involving Harvin AND Taylor.

Vontae Davis has a similar level of body fat. The problem with that is in any hot and humid environment he's going to be prone to excessive fatigue and dehydration-induced cramping. The ideal body fat percentage is 8-10% for professional athletes.

Minny is not exactly a hot and humid area ;)

I agree, but it is a very small concern overall. Still it brings to mind WR David Boston who was totaly chiseled and always a hamstring away from being an impact player.

Boston was a case where he was simply too damn big for his position....how many body builders succeed as NFL WR's? That is what he looked like in the end.....roids got the best of him.
