A Look back and what we could have had...

Usually I do this when the Bowls are announced, but didn't get to it this time. Wanted to take a look though now that we saw the teams in the Bowl Games and see what we could have had if a playoff existed. I still state there are 2 main ways you are do an 8 team playoff, the right way, which is take the BCS rankins and simply take the top 8, not automatic qualifies.....or the money way....still have the 6 auto's, 2 at large from the 2 highest non auto's in the BCS.

So based on that, let's look at the "Right" way first:
#1 Auburn vs #8 Arkansas
#4 Stanford vs #5 Wisconsin
#3 TCU vs #6 Ohio State
#2 Oregon vs #7 Oklahoma

This would have been great to see, I think Auburn would have got past Arkansas again, Stanford lookedvery good in the Orange and in a good game should have beaten Wisconsin. TCU.OSU would have been a great game and one with a lot of words going back and forth. I am biased and feel Tressel would find a way to beat them, but many will feel TCU would have won and it's hard to argue, they beat a team that kicked the Buckeyes around camp Randal. No upset for the #2 seed, Oregon moves on.

The semi's would have had Auburn and Stanford squaring off and I'm not sure I would have written Stanford off in that game at all. They looked like one hell of a team in the Orange. I'm going to call an upset there. OSU/Oregon, we saw in in the Rose Bowl last year......but I'm be non homer and give it to the Ducks.

Oregon/Staford rematch for the title? Hmmmm....what could have been!

Now let's look at the "Money" way:
#1 Auburn vs #8 UConn
#4 Stanford vs #5 Wisconsin
#3 TCU vs #6 Oklahoma
#2 Oregon vs #7 Va Tech

Don't like this near as much as the top 8 squaring off. Auburn/UConn is a snooze fest, Tiger rack up 50 and win by 40. TCU gets to do the same thing to the Sooners that Boise did and they move on. Stanford/Wisc un changed, Cardnials win. Oregon.Va tach would have been another blow out as Oregon runs up 50+.

Auburn/Stanford, again, damn good game, but I think Stanford had a shot if they played. I also like TCU's speed and tenacity on defense to slow down the Ducks. To mix it up in this one, Auburn is the one who squeaked by the Cardinals this time and TCU knocks off the Ducks.

Auburn vs TCU......hmmmmm.....same game that should be happening now!

Just something to ponder.

Personally I feel that Auburn would have beat whoever they faced on any given day. Auburn was the best team in the land this year IMO.

Accept they almost lost to Clemson in overtime... They were a missed FG away from not being in that title game.

Very true Mills.....

They won every game they played and in this format was the best team. In a playoff, it is very feasible to see a team upset them.

LSU gave them a scare as well. Fact is just about anyway that we choose to crown our champions there's a close call or two on the way to that title.

Yep. No team can win every game by 40. And dont forget 'Bama had them by 24 and should have won it.

Auburn was not the best "team" in the land. Auburn didnt have shit past Cam Newton. No Cam and that was a 7-5 team. He won them the title. USC, Texas, LSU, Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, all of them had great players across the board in their title years. I really dont see that with Auburn.

Couldn't agree more. I'm still not jumping on the Auburn is all that bandwagon. If they are as good as they say, then when Cams gone next year they will still win. Not going to happen. Hearing alot of Cam going to the draft. Not sure how true it is and dont think he is NFL ready yet either.
