49ers to decide on QB after 3rd Preseason Game

Coach Mike Singletary doesn't intend to name a starting quarterback until the 49ers' third preseason game. "I have two quarterbacks I feel very confident about. I don't have one great guy," said Singletary. Alex Smith closed the gap on Shaun Hill with a strong display at OTAs, but Hill could regain the upper hand by playing better in games.

Nothing more than backup fodder here, but still something worth paying attention to.

Hmmmmmmm.................

I would love Smith to step up and take the job due to the pure talent advantage he has. However, I have seen way too much of the "deer in the headlights" look to think this will happen. I think Hill is the guy for 2009...........

I agree, it makes me wonder if Smith is just one of those great in practice guys. What's the status of the O line out there?

Looks to be much improved. Baas is finally healthy and started to live up to his 2nd round draft status last year. Staley is going to be a very good player. Rachel looks to be the mauler they need for the power run game. Heitman is solid at center and hopefully Smith can stay healthy and give them a steady RT. The big thing is that they got to play together as a unit last year (with the exception of Smith) and seem to be gelling. Good depth with Snyder playing the role of "super sub" and Sims being able to play both guard and tackle as well.

I think they will be considered in the top half of the O-lines by the end of the year which will be a huge step forward. Young group that can stay together a long time...........

Favre might un-retire again after turning down the Vikes and throw his name in the mix. lol. On a serious note, Gotta feel bad for SF, they haven't had a QB since Montana.

Danny White had the deeriest in the headlights look I have ever seen and he worked out OK.

Of course, he had a few more years as second fiddle than Smith has had.
