3rd rounder TE Jimmy Graham a player to stash?

From those folks at rotoworld,

Third-round TE Jimmy Graham "has stood out" in minicamp this weekend, according to coach Sean Payton.

Graham has easily been the most talked about rookie in the Saints' draft class. A shot-blocking power forward at Miami, Graham has already drawn lofty comparisons to Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates. Playing time will be hard to come by as a rookie, but he's an ideal roster stash in Dynasty leagues.

Only reason for those comparisons is the basketball pedigree. He could very well be the next big thing who follows those 2 to cross-athletic success. He could also be a career backup who sprinkles in a nice game occasionally to keep people interested.
Either way, for 2010 he's planted behind Shockey and until that changes I'm not really targetting him in any formats.

I grabbed him in our mock for the rAVENS, then they selected 2 of them. I might have drafted him for the Falcons.

As a Saints fan, I hope he is the next big thing but I dont see how he will get any playing time this year. Obviously, Shockey is still the starter but backups Billy Miller and David Thomas are both underrated and serviceable veterans. That puts Graham 4th on the TE on a team that rarely runs two TEs and goes 4 WRs often. Id be surprised if he makes any splash this year or next but he is a project player that may be something 3-5 years down the line.

With Shockey in place it's hard to envision much playing time this year. But the Shock could become a cap casualty as the Saints try and retain it's championship core, if the kids any good.

Bears watchin. :xpopcorn:

RC, that would've been a perfect landing spot for someone who's still refining his football skills, especially an athletic but raw TE. Could you have a more perfect teacher in place?

Not to mention a more perfect offense to utilize his skills. He wont have to be in a 3pt stance rubbing DE on the way to the next level. Put him in the slot as a 4th WR against a small CB and let him run up the seam.

:taz: Sean Payton could make him dangerous :taz:

Here's an update on the young TE that's turning heads in New Orleans.

rotoworld,
Saints rookie TE Jimmy Graham has "continued to turn heads" during Organized Team Activities.

Graham has been a highlight-reel catch waiting to happen on the practice field. While keeping it up with pads on will be the ex-basketball player's real litmus test, Graham's first spring couldn't have been more promising.
