1983 vs 1999

While reading about Dan Marino, I found in these years 6 QBs and 5 QBs respectively were taken. With the fight about rookie money and all going on right now, I thought it would be interesting to see the QBs and then laugh at how much money was wasted in 1999.

QB's taken in 1983 1st Round:

1.01 - John Elway, Baltimore Colts (rights traded to Denver)(2X SB Winner)
1.07 - Todd Blackledge, Kansas City Chiefs
1.14 - Jim Kelly, Buffalo Bills
1.15 - Tony Eason, New England Patriots
1.24 - Ken O'Brien, New York Jets
1.27 - Dan Marino, Miami Dolphins

QB's taken in 1999 1st Round:

1.01 - Tim Couch, Cleveland Browns
1.02 - Donovan McNabb, Philadelphia Eagles
1.03 - Akili Smith, Cincinnati Bengals
1.11 - Daunte Culpepper, Minnesota Vikings
1.12 - Cade McNown, Chicago Bears

(if you must have six for comparison, 2.50 - Shaun King, Tampa Bay)

And they thought 1999 was the second coming of 1983.

Culpepper probably came closest in that class to Marino's skill set, but was never particularly good at reading any defense and just totally fell apart after blowing out his knee. But, yeah, to say the 99 class was the second coming is an insult to the worst player in the 83 class. As a matter of fact, take a 7th round pick from the 83 class and put him (in his prime) in the 99 class and I guarantee you he's head and shoulders above Couch.

Lets see just for the heck of it:

7.311 - Clete Caspter, Los Angeles Rams
7.312 - David Mangrum, Philadelphia Eagles
7.333 - Scott Lindquist, Oakland Raiders

I cant find stats on either one, but then again who'd want to see Tim Couch lol
